Herbal Medicine refers to the use of plants for medicinal purposes. For thousand of years plants provided the sole source of medicines and many familiar and potent medicines of the 21stcentury have been derived directly or indirectly from herbs
Modern studies into efficacy of herbs and randomized controlled trials have proven that herbs can be effective medicines. Modern medical herbalism is a synthesis of ancient and modern theories and practices, and its philosophy is based on the principle that health is the harmony of body, mind and spirit.
We have an inherent ability to regulate the functions of the body and to heal ourselves, known as homeostasis. When this mechanism is disturbed at any level, illnesses result. Symptoms in the body represent the attempt by the organism to correct the imbalance and heal itself.
Herbalists look at patient’s symptoms in order to address and treat the underlying causes of illness using herbs and advising on diet and lifestyle.
